About Us » Company Overview
Meditor Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of proprietary products for the therapeutic management of acute and chronic hypotension and hypotension-related disorders.
The clinical development program is focused on the development of lead compound MTR104 for the treatment of three main medical targets: MTR107 (i.v. formulation) for Intradialytic hypotension, MTR106 (immediate release oral tablet formulation) for Migraine, and MTR105 (i.v. formulation) for the treatment of hypotension associated with Cardiac surgery.
MTR104 is a low molecular weight isothiouronium derivative that addresses a variety of acute and chronic therapeutic indications associated with hypotension. The method of action of the lead compound is yet to be fully elucidated and various models have been proposed. One model which has been proposed is that MTR104 acts as an inhibitor of Nitric Oxide overproduction.
In 2003, the FDA granted Meditor IND (Investigational New Drug) number 66,505 authorizing the beginning of two separate Phase II clinical trials:
- MTR107 for the treatment of Intradialytic hypotension: multicenter Phase II clinical trial ongoing in Israel.
- MTR105 for the treatment of hypotension associated with Cardiac surgery: Phase II clinical trial planned to commence shortly in the USA.
During 2001-2002 a promising preliminary study on 100 patients, was carried out demonstrating the efficacy of MTR106 in alleviating migraine attacks. Based on the conclusions from that study, a new oral formulation has been developed. Meditor completed a Phase II Randomized Double Blind, Placebo-Controlled Dose-Escalating Study in 40 migraine patients. The study successfully achieved end-points for pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of MTR106 immediate release oral tablets for the treatment of acute migraine attacks.
